At the Winter Solstice ceremony of 2021, we sat steeped in the rhythm of drums, rattles and kindred hearts beating in the darkness. Sage, sweetgrass and palo santo swirled around us and all that we were blessing and bidding farewell. Warmth came equally from our blankets and connections to other like-minded souls that gathered to honor the returning light in the coming year.
The Winter Solstice pre-dawn skies were full of color and beauty; their intensity made brighter against backdrops of indigo blue and black. The sunrise itself was calm and obscured by a layer of clouds, reminding us that life exists in the mundane. The setting moon was just past full, waning in the western sky in Cancer, nourishing us as we parted ways.
We’re supported when we’re in the midst of uncertainty and darkness as much as we are when our days are lit up with celebration and joy, and 2022 holds more opportunities for us to facilitate our process of deep transformation.
This is the last year of Pluto’s journey through Capricorn, which represents the outer limits of our evolutionary level of maturity. In March of 2023, the transformative planet will move into Aquarius, helping us navigate the terrain of possibility where we’ll invest even more of our energy in innovative endeavors that serve the collective.
The importance of human connection and compassion couldn’t be clearer as time speeds up and increasing global catastrophes aim to awaken and stir us to action. Jupiter’s shift into Pisces late last year supports our understanding of compassion, oneness and trust in 2022. Uranus in Taurus and Saturn in Aquarius will be activated by the personal planets this year, and they’ll square each other two more times – further encouraging us to assess and rebuild lives that are meaningful and worthwhile.
Each month, the moon’s cycles assist our process of becoming. Each season calls us toward our expansion.
January 2, 2022 brings the first new moon of the year in Capricorn at 11:33 am MST. It forms a cooperative earthy trine to Uranus in Taurus and offers us another chance to ground into what matters. It’s a perfect time to reflect, ground into the Earth and nourish and strengthen our bodies, minds and spirits with love. Investments in ourselves allow us to serve each other and the whole.
Here’s to being present to the sacred this year. It’s in the mala bead and the mud puddle, the dark moon and the full, the snowflake and the candle flame, the movement and the stillness, the inhale and the exhale, the journey of those newly born and those departing.
It’s in me. It’s in you. It’s in us.
This year let’s dare to practice the art of presence and bear witness to the blessings of dwelling here, now.
It’s all sacred and it’s all choice.
Always love.
